The Invention
I have invented a way that I believe will allow small cars to be safer in collisions.
I propose that small cars have special bumpers that retract when the car is parked, and expand when the car is driven. In the above photos, I show side bumpers and a rear bumper. A special front bumper is usually not necessary because of seat belts and air bags.
Note that the rear wheels of the vehicle also expand backwards. The longer wheelbase will give a smoother ride.
To minimize cost, another option is to have a rear bumper that can be expanded and retracted WITHOUT the rear axle moving backwards.
