The figure above is my patent pending invention to solve the problem of matching the crushed amount of energy absorbing material
to the energy of a collision. In this example, there are three separate volumes of Energy Absorbing Material and three Plates that might
crush the material in a collision. The Sensor is attached to the Bumper, and measures the forces at the first moments of a collision. A Processor then selects which Plates will crush their respective volumes of Energy Absorbing Material. The Engagement Mechanisms determine whether a Shaft will pass through, or be fixed to its Plate.
